Adopt A Tree - Cottonworld
"One of the deep secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others." —Lewis Carroll
World Environment Day is the United Nation's initiative for creating worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Every 5th June, for the last four decades, it has been the biggest annual event. With over 143 countries participating to advocate environmental causes. World Environment Day has been raising awareness, supporting action, and driving change since 1974. It is a day for everyone, everywhere.
This year's theme is 'Connecting People to Nature'. And that’s what we at Cottonworld are all about! We invite you to think about how we are part of nature and how closely we depend on it. We want you to find ways to experience and cherish this fundamental relationship to nature. This day reminds us about how important it is to go outdoors, into nature and appreciate its beauty. To understand the importance of taking action to protect the Earth that we share.
The blame for environmental degradation extends to the fashion industry. Fashion plays a very significant role and has much to answer for.
Thirty years ago fast fashion didn’t exist. Clothing was long lasting and constructed from good quality, pure materials. Cotton was natural, and there were fewer low-cost polyesters and rayon blends. While these blended textiles might be a steal for you, the price is steep for the environment.
Polyester is a man-made material, it comes from the same fibres found in plastic bottles. It has become one of the world’s most common fabrics and also one of the most toxic pollutants. The creation and disposal of these synthetic materials requires massive consumption of freshwater. The manufacturing processes involved in dyeing and treating these fabrics contributes to the world's water pollution.
Yet, the news is not all bad. World Environment Day has grown to become a global platform for raising awareness on sustainable consumption. Promoting an understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards environmental issues.
The whole sustainable shift has begun around the world. Different kinds of green initiatives are picking up steam. In the last few years, a host of brands have stepped in to do their part. Also as individuality takes the lead, a new consumer has emerged. One who’s willing to reflect on their evil doings towards the environment.
And what is the best way to take the message forward than fashion? - It's trendy, artistic, and expressive! And it's what makes us all look good.
At Cottonworld, from the start we've been using the best available natural fabrics. It's been a part of our brand philosophy. And we wish to share our company values with you. Our garments are respectful to both people and planet.
The best way to practice sustainable fashion is to avoid synthetics to a large extent. Use natural materials and buy local as far as possible. Spend wisely and put your money where it makes the biggest difference to people and planet. To consume with care. To be aware and to do what you can. To take one step at a time to reconsider what you are buying - because we are what we wear.
So, if your conscience is troubling you, don't despair, check out these Cottonworld initiatives that show you some easy ways to make a difference today.
Planting a tree is one of the most powerful ways you can make a difference for the environment. Every garment at Cottonworld comes with a tag that is embedded with seeds.
It's simple, it starts with a seed. Adopt a tree today. Nature has mothered us. Now it's our turn to mother nature.
To continue to expand in a sustainable way we have also focused on - reuse and recycle.
While clothes are easily recycled, bedsheets and other used fabric usually end up being discarded. So we came up with an eco-chic reusable tote bags made of vintage bedsheets.
Part of our recycle and sustainable drive, we work with El Rhino, a foundation dedicated to using elephant and rhino poop to produce handmade paper.
No excuses not to join in. Support responsible fashion and responsible living. Together we can celebrate World Environment Day.
